Biographical Information: Donald joined the Lord after a month long illness. He was a member of the Buffalo Christian Church of Buffalo, Indiana. Don's grandparents, Walter and Gertrude Need raised him on a farm near Monroeville, Indiana. He graduated from Monroeville High School in the class of 1942. Don then joined and served in the United States Navy as a Signalman 2nd Class, during World War II. He made eleven (11) round trips escorting convoys on the USS Dobler DE48. Don was awarded a Bronze Star in the Atlantic Theater. In 1944, he was transferred to the Pacific with duty aboard the USS ATA 204. Don was awarded another Bronze Star for the Invasion of Okinawa and many other ribbons. After being discharged December 26, 1945, Don, returned to Indiana. He worked at Anthony Wayne Glass, International Harvester and The Hoover Company, all of Fort Wayne and moved to Huntington, Indiana, and worked for Geedy Corey Hardware. In 1957 Don founded Need Appliance Service which he operated until 1962, at which time he joined Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He managed stores in Crawfordsville, Covington, and Kokomo, all of Indiana and was a district service representative in Indianapolis, Indiana, for two (2) years, also working in Huntington and New Castle, Indiana. He retired from Goodyear in 1979 and moved to Buffalo, Indiana, where he rejoined the work force as an outside salesman for the former McCord Auto Supply until 1994, when he moved to Carroll County. He traveled extensively throughout the West and Southwest. After his marriage to Anna Charlene, they enjoyed their motor home trips in the winters throughout the United States, visiting all of the states meeting and making friends with many of God's people. They spent the last four (4) winters in Yuma, Arizona. Don was very proud of the fact that he learned to play Bridge at the ago of 80. Even more satisfying was the fact that he could still play a good game of pool after sixty-five (65) years. He was an avid fisherman. Don loved to fish a pond or lake wherever he might land. However, most of all he was delighted when he was able to be having a good time with family. He loved all his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and sharing stories with them. Don was so happy when he could be of service to the Lord, wherever that might be.
