Burial will take place: At the Hughes Cemetery of rural Monticello, Indiana, next to his beloved wife, Marilee. Full Military Rites by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard of Monticello, Indiana, will be conducted at the cemetery.
Visitation will be: 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 24, 2021, at the Miller - Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana. An Order of Eastern Star Service by Crystal Chapter #165 will be at 5:30 a.m. (EDT), Friday, September 24, 2021, followed by a Masonic Service by the Libanus Masonic Lodge #154 F. & A.M., followed by a walk through by the White County Shrine Club. **** Masks are Required ****
Biographical Information: Bob had lived in the Monticello, Indiana, area for thirty – four years before moving to Kendallville, Indiana, to be with his daughter, Kathleen “Katie”. He then moved back to Valparaiso, Indiana, in March of 2021, to be with his son, Michael. Bob was a United States World War II Air Corp B17 Bomber Pilot and had also served in the 15th Air Force for Italy. He was a very proud veteran. Before Bob moved to the Monticello, Indiana, area he had worked as a switch operator for the railroad for several years prior to moving on to work at the former Willow Creek Lumber of Portage, Indiana. Bob had also farmed in the Valparaiso, Indiana, area. He was a very active member of the Libanus Masonic Lodge #154 F. & A.M. of Monticello, Indiana, and had served as the secretary and trustee of the lodge for several years. Bob was also a member of the White County Shrine Club of Monticello, Indiana, and also served as the secretary and treasurer of that club as well for several years. He was a former member of the United Methodist Church of Monticello, Indiana, Hickory Grove Church of rural Delphi (Carroll County), Indiana, and was attending the Lockport Church of Lockport (Carroll County), Indiana, for several years before moving away. Bob always loved going to Kinser’s Bakery of Monticello, Indiana, every morning to have coffee and donuts with friends, especially his friend, John Crowel. He was an amazing woodworker and used to love and enjoy working in his wood shop for hours. Bob also enjoyed going out to his good friend Jonah Peterson’s at the Peterson Family Farm in rural Delphi (Carroll County), Indiana. They would run Jonah’s sawmill together, their friendship they had was priceless and endless. Bob also volunteered a lot of his time going to nursing homes in the Monticello area and helped deliver mail to the residents, assist with different activities or assisting with whatever they needed. Bob was an amazing person and a good friend to many.

Memorial Information: In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials may be given to American Cancer Society or the Indiana Veterans Home of West Lafayette, Indiana. Marriage Information: On June 11, 1944, in the Grace United Mehtodist Church in Gary, Indiana, he married the love of his life Marilee L. Palmer; she passed away on Monday, January 14, 2008.
