Biographical Information: Alma Colleen Shook, 98, of Monticello, passed away at 12:50 p.m., Friday, July 30, 2021, at the Indiana University Health White Memorial Hospital Monticello. She was a 1941 graduate of Matthews High School of Matthews and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and a Master’s degree in Education from Purdue University. In November of 1950, Colleen married David W. Shook in Matthews. They moved to Farmland to start a family and begin farming. In 1955 they moved to Monticello where Dave began work for the Farmers Home Administration. Colleen taught for over thirty – three years at Buffalo High School, Burnettsville High School and Roosevelt Middle School and Twin Lakes High School. In 1989, she retired from Twin Lakes High School after teaching home economics, practical arts, and science. Colleen founded Literacy Volunteers of White County in October of 1990 and was recognized locally and at the state level for her volunteerism related to adult education and literacy. She continued volunteering with the literacy organization well into her nineties including tutoring at the White County Jail. Colleen was a member and Elder Emeritus at the Monticello Christian Church. She was also active in PEO, White County Extension Homemakers Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Tri – Kappa. Colleen was an avid traveler taking many family driving vacations across the United States and Canada. Later in life, she traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia.

Marriage Information: On November 19, 1950, at the Matthews Methodist Church in Matthews, Indiana, she married David Wayne Shook; he passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 1979.
