Full Military Rites by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard of Monticello, Indiana, will be conducted at 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 25, 2021, here at the Miller - Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana, followed by A Memorial Celebration of Life Service.
Biographical Information: Mike graduated from Pioneer High School of Royal Center, Indiana, in 1966 and summa cum laude from Black Hawk Junior College in 2002. He grew up as a dairy farmer and worked along - side his father, Ralph. Mike was a United States Air Force Veteran, serving as an Airman from 1966 to 1972. While in the military he was considered a skilled radar operator, and airborne aircraft control and warning operator. Mike was considered an asset to his aircrew and projected to be a fine career NCO officer. He was also described as invaluable part of his units operation, had an outstanding degree of self-sacrificing desire, and high academic achievements. Mike was commended by many of his senior officers. After Mike returned from the military, he returned to the family diary farm to work along – side his father, Ralph. He was employed by the White County Highway Department of Reynolds, Indiana, Home Depot of Logansport, Indiana, and Quality Construction of Monticello, Indiana. After pursuing his dream of a higher education, he opened his own nursery and landscape business, Sandhill Nursery. Mike was a devoted father and animal lover. He enjoyed raising fighting chickens, show pigeons and chickens, and rabbits. Mike was a huge supporter of 4-H. He was a member of 4-H for ten years and said he was in 4-H for fifty years because he saw to it that all four of his children and grandchildren did the same. Mike enjoyed landscaping and gardening. He always said, “pulling weeds was like therapy,” and “one man’s weed is another man’s flower.” Mike loved spending time with his kids and grandkids, and they will all deeply miss him.
Special Services: Full Military Rites by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard of Monticello, Indiana, will be conducted at 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 25, 2021, here at the Miller - Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana.
