Biographical Information: Jonah L. Peterson, 96, of rural Delphi, passed away surrounded by family at 11:10 a.m., Thursday, March 11, 2021, at Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette, Indiana. Jonah was born on Friday, July 11, 1924, in rural Burnettsville to James and Isabelle (Truesdell) Peterson. He was raised on a farm and graduated from Adams Township High School in rural Carroll County, Indiana. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, Jonah returned to the States and married Beverly Marson of Chicago, Illinois. Jonah and Beverly were married 61 years until her death on Monday, November 12, 2007. Jonah and Beverly raised their family in Chicago, Illinois. Jonah worked as a business analyst employing computers when computer technology was just beginning. He retired from Nalco Chemical Company in 1983. Soon after retiring, Jonah returned to Carroll County, Indiana, to the Peterson family homestead in Adams Township in rural Carroll County, Indiana, where he became the 3rd generation owner of the family farm known as Hopedale, named for the nearby former Hamlet. There he converted the old barn to a residence, excavated ponds, planted two thousand trees, milled lumber, tilled gardens, held family reunions and deemed each day Saturday. In association with Carroll County, Indiana, Soil and Water, Jonah hosted an annual Pond Day at his farm for all Carroll County, Indiana, school first graders since 1997. He was active at Hickory Grove Church, and the Libanus Masonic Lodge #154 F. & A.M. of Monticello, Indiana.
