He had worked for the Louisiana United States Postal Service and walked over five miles a day for his route. He retired in 1986. He moved to the Monticello area in 1996, to be closer to his now deceased brother, Paul. When Poppy, came to the Monticello area he became a good friend and companion of Louise Shivley. They were great bingo partners. Poppy was a total and complete gentleman!!! Whenever you went for a visit and the time came for you to leave, he would always see you to the door and watch until you got to your vehicle knowing you were safe, and would blow you a kiss and a salute goodbye. Everyone knew Poppy, for his walking all around town. His favorite place to walk was at Altherr Park, and a bench will be placed at the park in memory of Poppy.
