Biographical Information: Larry E. Sims, 77, of Monticello (Buffalo area), passed away at 11:45 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2020, at the Franciscan Health St. Elizabeth East Hospital of Lafayette. He was born on Thursday, September 30, 1943, in Lafayette to the late Sam and Gertrude “Gerty” (Morris) Sims and was raised by Walter Gudeman. On October 2, 2010, at the Baptist Church in Francesville he married Sharon (Crosby) DuVall; she survives. Larry was raised in the Monon area and attended Monon High School of Monon. He had also lived in the Buffalo area. Larry had worked at the former Monon Stone Quarry in Monon for several years and at the White County Highway Department for over twenty – eight years. He took great pride of plowing snow in his territory and made numerous friends. Larry never knew a stranger and once he met you, you were his friend forever!!!! He was a former member and was baptized within the Monon Community Church of Monon and had been attending the Baptist Church of Francesville. Larry enjoyed driving and riding his dune buggy, fishing, drag racing, hunting, and riding his horse “Billy Jack” in horse riding competitions. He was an avid Walking Dead watcher. Surviving are wife, Sharon Simms of Monticello (Buffalo area); two daughters, Katrina “Trina” (husband Doug) Pelsy of Francesville, and Angela “Ang” (companion Doug McElfresh) Keys of Winamac; step – son, Brain DuVall of Lafayette; five grandchildren, Amber (husband Alex) Leman of Kouts, Joshua (wife Tiffany) Knebel of Francesville, Chelsea (husband Mike) Sharpe of Zionsville, Ariel (husband Mark) Miller of Francesville, and Bradley McElfresh of Winamac; eleven grandchildren, Esaleigh, and Brielle Hauptli, Bryant, and Jillian Kackos, Kinzlee Knebel, Hudson, Eleanor, Amelia, and Andrew Shaper, and Joie, and Xayla Keys; sister, Jodi (husband Brad) Adams of Monticello; two sisters-in-law, Linda Mosher of Monon, and Judy Hastings of Monticello; brother-in-law, Steve (wife Annie) Crosby of Star City; aunts and uncles, Bill (wife Charlotte) Morris of Monon, Barb Bittner of Monticello, and Nellie Crosby of Buffalo; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Gertrude “Gerty” (Morris) Gudeman; biological father, Sam Sims; son, Bradley Sims; granddaughter, Haley Keys; father and mother-in-law, Everett and Genevieve (Nice) Crosby; two brothers-in-law, Fred Mosher, and Bob Abdon; and aunts and uncles, Bea Munsterman – Hunt, Bernice “Bing” Reynolds, Ralph Nice, Dorothy Nice, Alvin, and Margaret Anderson, and Eugene Crosby. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at the Miller – Roscka Funeral Home of Monticello. Celebration of Life Service will be at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 22, 2020, with Rev. Dennis Gutwein of the Baptist Church of Francesville officiating. Due to the COVID – 19 Pandemic, masks are required and requested to be worn. Burial will follow at the Pro / Indian Creek Cemetery in rural Headlee (Pulaski County). Memorials may be given to the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department Emergency Medical Technicians “EMT” of Buffalo.
