Biographical Information: John W. Carter, 65, of Monticello, passed away at 1:02 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2020, at his home with all of his family by his side. He was born on Thursday, November 25, 1954, in Logansport to the late Floyd Clinton and Lavetta Mae (Johnson) Carter. On October 12, 1990, in Monticello, he married Linda Lou Myer; she passed away on May 20, 2014. John had lived in the Monticello area most all his life and was a 1974 graduate of Twin Lakes High School of Monticello. After graduating from high school, John entered the United States Marine Corp. He was a sergeant and was decorated with the Rifle Expert Medal (3rd Award), Good Conduct Medal, Letter of Appreciation, and the National Defense Service Medal. John was a life – time member of the American Legion Post #81 of Monticello. He bowled in the Men’s Monday and Wednesday Leagues and the Sunday Mixed League. John bowled a 299 twice in his lifetime. He attended multiple state bowling championship games. John enjoyed golfing with his buddies. He also enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren to play pool, throwing bags, and horse - shoes. John enjoyed hosting family get togethers around the bonfire. He was an avid Purdue University sports fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR and golf. John was known to always help anybody and everyone!!!! Surviving are four children, Mistie Carter – Strickland of Burnettsville, Wendi Carter – Heron of Idaville, Kristin (husband Omar) Sosa of Lafayette, and Kyle (wife Angie) Spencer of Monticello; nine grandchildren, Cole, Justus, Michael David, Isabelle, Matthew, Savannah, Jaxson, Kian, and Ava; three sisters, Doris (husband Aaron) Issler of Florida, JoAnn (husband Darren) Reed of Monon, and Sharon Shank of Monticello; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Clinton and Lavetta Mae (Johnson) Carter, Sr.; wife, Linda Lou Carter; brother, Floyd Clinton, Carter, Jr.; and granddaughter, Sierra Mercedes Carter – Wireman. Visitation will be from 12:00 (noon) to 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at the Lake Shafer Christian Center, 1975 NW Shafer Drive, Monticello, Indiana, 47960. Celebration of Life Service will be at the Lake Shafer Christian Center at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2020, with Pastor Nate Pyle of the Lake Shafer Christian Center of Monticello officiating. Burial with Full Military Rites by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard of Monticello will follow at the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery in rural Monticello.
