Biographical Information: Carol Gardner - Krell, 75, of Monticello, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at the Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette. She was born on Friday, June 8, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Gerhart and Lillie (Frees) Essler. On September 30, 2005, in Hilton Head, South Carolina, she married Larry Krell; he survives. Carol had lived full time in the Monticello area since 2011 and had been summering here most all of her life. She was a burst of joy and found fun in everything. Carol had many friends and was very active in the Women’s Auxiliaries of AmVets Post #91, VFW Post #221, and the American Legion Post #81, all of Monticello. She was the CEO and founder and operator of Carlton Mortgage Services, Inc. of Palatine, Illinois. Carol worked in mortgage and financing for over forty years and belonged to the National Association of Mortgage Brokers and had served as the president for one term. She had also worked with the Habitat Humanity for several years in the Chicagoland area. Carol was a master gardener and received a certificate and had a huge passion for Garden Club of Monticello. She was a connoisseur of fine food and wine. Carol was instrumental in starting the Dinning with Chefs, through the Women’s Auxiliary AmVets Post #91 of Monticello which was nationally recognized. She was a terrific wife, mother, grandmother, and her family was her everything. Surviving are husband, Larry A. Krell of Monticello; six children, Eric (companion Kari Mills) Bovino, Julia Tobin, Heidi (husband Keith) Kirchner, Jessica (husband Dr. Robert) Langman, Kris (wife Jessica) Gardner, and David (wife Tracie) Krell; seven grandchildren, Hannah, Madeline, Amanda, Tessa, Katie, Ryan, and Logan; and brother-in-law, Jimmy (wife Shela) Krell. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Gerhart and Lillie (Frees) Essler; and two aunts, Margaret Trumph – Lamorticella, and Erna Odendahl. No Visitation or Services are Scheduled at this time. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Purduettes Club (Women of Song) of Purdue University of West Lafayette.
