Biographical Information: Hi has been in failing health since 1997. He has lived in the Monticello, Indiana, area for the last several years, moving from Rochester, Indiana. Hi was born and raised on a 200 acre farm in rural Carroll County, Indiana. He attended grade school at the old Carson School in rural Carroll County, Indiana, and went onto graduate in 1954 from Roosevelt High School of Monticello, Indiana. Hi had farmed. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving from 1958 to 1961 as a Jusmag in the Philippines Island and had also served for four years in the Indiana National Guard. He was a bridge superintendent, working for the former Hornback - Sickler Construction Company of Monticello, Indiana, E & B Paving of Rochester, Indiana, along with other construction companies. Hi was very active in the 1974 Monticello, Indiana, tornado clean up. He and his wife, Shirley, owned Ellis Garden and Plant Center in Rochester, Indiana, for several years before retiring and moving to the Monticello, Indiana, area. Hi made thirty - one clocks for children and grandchildren, rebuilt an antique sled, constructed bird houses, planter boxes, and even devised his own potato digger. He was a member of the American Legion Post #81 of Monticello, Indiana, and Laborers Union Local #274 of Terre Haute, Indiana.
Special Services: Full Military Rites by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard of Monticello, Indiana, will be conducted at the Bedford Cemetery in rural Monon, Indiana.
Memorial Information: Memorials may be given to the Great Lakes Caring Hospice or to Happy Tails of Buffalo, Indiana. Envelopes will be available here at the funeral home.
