Biographical Information: Donald “Don or Donnie” Golden, 71, passed away peacefully, at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana on Tuesday, June 20, 2017. His loving wife of 51 years, and his family surrounded Don during the time of his passing. Don was born as one of three siblings to John G. and Helen (Podgorny) Golden on June 30, 1945 in Hammond, Indiana. He spent his childhood and part of his adult life in Chicago, Illinois. He attended St. Florian Catholic School and Chicago Vocational High School where he received a trade degree. Growing up in the Polish community of Hegewisch, located on the southeast side of Chicago, Don met his childhood sweetheart, Patricia Ann Bugajski. They were married on September 10, 1966. They devoted their life of faith and family to each other and have two beautiful girls; Lynette Ann (Golden) Jacobs and Ann Marie Rose (Golden) Leach. Throughout his career, Don was a plant superintendent for Seaway Manufacturing Corporation, which took him from Chicago to Pennsylvania and back to Chicago. Once back in Chicago, Don started his own aluminum siding business. After his time at Seaway and his aluminum siding business, Don and Pat moved their family to Buffalo, Indiana where they purchased Buffalo Island and started Buffalo Island Deli. They owned and operated Buffalo Island Deli and Pat’s Deli for 10 years. Don also worked for Buffalo Park Discount for a number of years where he crafted the art of custom counter-top making. From there, Don created Don’s Custom Counter-Tops, which he owned and operated for 15 years. Upon retirement, Don and Pat ventured into pleasing festival attendees across the state of Indiana with their famous kettle corn partnered with the amazing personably service they were known for from their days of Buffalo Island and Pat’s Deli. They enjoyed the winter months in Destin, Florida where they truly lived and enjoyed the “salt life”. They made many friends along the way and throughout their adventures, which will always be cherished by our family. Don was an avid woodworker. He enjoyed fishing, joking and laughing with friends and the love of his family. Nothing could put a bigger smile on his face than spending time with, or talking about his granddaughters. Don was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department and Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. His faith and family were very important to him and they were the driving factors on how he lived his life…to enjoy the blessings of each day. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Patricia Ann Golden; his daughters, Lynette Ann Jacobs (Jim), and Ann Marie Rose Leach (Chris); his brothers, Richard Golden (Sue) and George Golden (Laura).
